October 5th: Take a hike, make a chocolate trail mix
I confess, I don’t exercise like I should. But, if there’s one thing that will get me eager to strap on some athletic shoes and head outdoors, it’s fall. The cool, crisp air, the gorgeous Autumn landscape… the luring scent of chocolate chip cookies baking at the neighbor’s house.
For the best views, I like to venture away from home, to a park, or the mountains. Now if I’m going to go on some epic hike, I’m going to need to be prepared. That’s right, snacks. And hitting the trails means one thing, Trail Mix.
Of course, you can buy a generic trail mix already prepared on the grocery store shelf. But, if you’re anything like me, you’re going to pick around half of the ingredients. Enemy #1, The pesky raisin. I know many of you adore them. But, for me, if I accidentally ate one, my afternoon would be ruined. Too dramatic? Maybe the hatred stemmed from one too many bad trick or treating experiences as a kid.
You know the kind….You knock on the door, plaster on your sweetest smile, and eagerly open up your candysack.
All of your hopes are on a prized chocolate bar. Your eyes grow big; your anticipation builds. Thump…A box of dreaded raisins.
Okay, enough of my ramblings (until someone brings up kale. Lol)
For me, the perfect trail mix has several components. Something salty, something sweet, something crunchy, and something fun.
